Things we still need done if anyone has some free time:

>renew testroot.cer/testpca.cer/driver.pfx (seems guideanon/certbro is very close!)
>fix olepro32.dll dependants so they build after olepro32 is done (so that the hour-long build /ZP step is no longer needed)
>find why generated asms01.cab is faulty
>fix remaining postbuild.err errors (see >>77987041, mostly just needs extra files from RTM ISOs, can probably be scripted like missing.bat)
>get XP stuff working in 2003 (base\hals\processors, etc, see >>77983597)
>find what's up with buildtag (>>77983330, explanation by >>78001417, can we change it to our own branch name?)
>get some built winlogon to work (sunlogon or win2000 version)
>build directui.lib under win2003 (needs bison & flex from ~2001, hard to find old builds though - xbox code may have flex)
>make XPSP1 buildtools work properly (needs tweaks for servicepack stuff? alternatively, get 2003 tools working on XPSP1)
>get themes working inside our server 2003 pro edition
>get amd64 builds working (needs txtsetup.inx / layout.inx / etc changed to remove missing drivers - some progress at >>78006430)
>get build tools working under x64 builders, so XP build VMs hopefully won't be needed anymore (OpenNT guy where are you?)
>create a ZIP with all the files copied/expanded by missing.cmd to save people from needing the ISOs (will require all 5 server editions + the 2 XP editions, see >>78002932, missing.bat with all files listed inside: https://anonfiles com/f6I1P5adp0)

If you know any other things that need a fix let me know and I'll update list next thread.

here is my solution to having the build system copy the winlogon executable for you.
place the extracted dir into g:\source\win2k3\nt\ds\security\gina
I added amd64 support but is untested, but you get the general idea.

Modifying and compiling proprietary Microsoft code is hard work and takes a lot of time. especially since I am doing it on my own, so it is not surprising that posts with progress are few and far between.

If you build win2000 winlogon under the win2003 source tree the PDB it generates should have all the stuff headers would give already, the different structs/types/etc
IDA lets you load just type info from a PDB too, so you could then load that into the win2003 database as well

The ISOs for 3790XP pro built in this way lack some help files but they can be skipped and the installation will complete without them.

Strange. Looking at the logs I've been getting a "system cannot execute the specified program" even though I'm on i386 XP. I also thought that changing the paths and references to 16bit compiler, linker whatever to their x86 equivalent in makefil0 would have got it to use the x86 binary but no.
Had to go into that directory and manually run

I mean ideally if all 64-bit did was increase memory width then the changes would be pretty minimal aside from recompile (limited to just changing a few definitions of pointer size and hoping code wasn't written to depend on 4-bit pointers), and the kernel would at least run.

It's the fact that switching to x64 also changes stuff like the memory segmentation model (long mode does away with segments), as well as new calling conventions that requires rewriting a bunch of things, especially if you want to actually run anything in userspace that expects usual 64-bit calling convention.

Here is a funny inverse issue. DDK newer compilers seem to F*ck the build procedure, while included ones work fine (not sure about NTOSBE ones). And the 16bit builtin compilers are the wacky ones.

Btw. ReactOS tagets as main compiler MSVC2015, with 2019 as an option. Would be safer to target at not so new MSVC, in order to keep the mess in sane levels. But if possible, would be better to replace the 16bit stuff with OpenWatcom, as is stuff hasn't changed that much since NT4 days, except for some bugfixes and moving the stuff across directories.

You don't even **need** to build NTVDM for AMD64 at all. Because there's this wonderful thing that actually works (needs a bit of tinkering with the function calls - comment out a couple of NT 6.x-specific things - and GCC to make it compile for NT 5.x, but that's pretty easy to do):

Because your "real deal" NTVDM is fucking useless under 64-bit. It used to use an outdated garbage CPU emulation M$ once bought for MIPS Alpha back in 1994, but then they threw it out altogether. NTVDM of XP/2003 used a hardware CPU instruction to "emulate" 16-bit environment, which is **not available** on AMD64, period.

OTVDM uses an actual optimized x86 emulation code. I even managed to run games that simply would not run under NTVDM. That's why there's no other way around, you imbecile.

since the issue appears to be a missing resource file, check to make sure that rc16 is in the tools. If not, that's probably down the path of the issue, at least.

the 16-bit compilers from the NTOSBE repository in the OpenNT project on github might provide something better - they're win2k3 era, iirc.

ReactOS kernel is held together by tape, it's not able to load almost any XP driver without BSOD nevermind the drivers for the newer versions of NT. It has more security holes in its syscalls than a Swiss cheese. and no amd64 build yet.

ReactOS is a joke is unable to run on modern hardware or any hardware. No business can consider it a valid OEM OS to pre-install on modern hardware.
Maybe in 2045 some Ebay seller will pre-install it on used laptop
